Professions Changes
Alchemy
All flasks recipes will now create 2 flasks for the same amount of ingredients but now last 1 hour instead of 2.

or 2 if you have max alchemy due to the double time bonus?

This kinda makes me sad. I really liked having 4 hour flasks.

Essentially it isnt changing anything. I wonder how this works with elixir mastery procs? Does getting 1 extra essentially mean you now get 2 extra? If not, thats a small nerf it seems like. Prior to this if you got a proc and, for example, you got 1 extra, yo uwould have 4 hours of flasks (2x 2hour). Now, if you get a proc and get 1, you only get 3 hours worth. ((2x normal + 1x proc) * 1hour = 3 hours)

They didn't state anything yet (that I've seen) about the extra procs, but it will hurt anyone had made and was saving up flasks. If you have 50 flasks now, after that patch that would equate to having 25 (since they last have as long) and you would have lost/wasted half the mats. So don't keep a lot on hand, just make what you need right now, then make them up after the patch.

As far as a "nerf", hmm, I hadn't thought about that. I'm sure Blizz knows what its doing though.

Hmm, while I don't know what they are trying to do, I do have a couple of ideas. One, with dual specs, you might want to change flasks during a Raid. So having a shorter duration would allow you to switch between flasks w/out possibly "wasting" a lot of one flask.

Same deal goes with finishing a raid and having, say, an hour left on your flask. While it might help if you do farming/rep/etc after the raid, some people want to save/use their flasks just for raiding. I could see this possibly lowering the cost of flasks too, since you wouldn't be "wasting" your extra flask time on non-raid activities. Hence, you wouldn't need as many flasks for raiding (time wise). Hmm, however, if people are buying two kinds of flasks, it might not really lower the cost to people who are dual spec'ing and switching a lot in raids.

I assume that alchemists will still get the benefit of 2x the duration for flasks. And I am interested to see if we can extra proc 2x the amount. You have created 10 x Flask of Whatever.

Probably relates to the dual spec changes... shorter duration flasks so that you don't waste 2 hours on a flask by drinking another to match you second spec.

Which is pretty awful if that's true, as it means that Blizzard is trying to make dual speccing an integral part of raid play, rather than the initial intention of just being a convenience.
There are those to whom knowledge is a weapon, and others to whom it is a shield. Neither view is balanced, but one is less unwise.

Update. Looks like we were pretty spot on with the reasoning behind the change.

As many of you have learned, we will be reducing the duration of flask effects so that they only last one hour. However, all recipes that create flasks will create two instead of one for the same material cost. Additionally, we will be increasing stack size from 5 to 20 as we anticipate players will need to carry more flasks at a given time. Vendor value for flasks has also been reduced to keep the auction house deposit low.

Our goal with the change was to allow players greater flexibility when determining how long they plan to raid, as currently we were seeing many players balance time spent raiding around flask duration. We also anticipate that this change will make using flasks in dungeons and battlegrounds a more reasonable decision for players. Though this change will not occur until patch 3.1.0, we wanted to give as much advance notice as possible in case some of you who are stockpiling flasks would prefer to wait to do so until the change is implemented.

We realize players who currently have stockpiled a lot of flasks may feel like they will lose money with this change, since their current flasks will only last for half as long once 3.1.0 goes live. To partially remedy this, we are going to allow players to exchange any current Northrend flasks (Flask of the Frost Wyrm, Flask of Stoneblood, Flask of Endless Rage and Flask of Pure Mojo) for two flasks with the shorter duration. Flasks from older content will not be grandfathered in, and going forward, it will only be possible to make the flasks with a one hour duration.

Because when I'm raiding, and my flask runs out...I'm out. Wink Otherwise, I turn into a chicken sans laser beams.

I've never heard of people planning their raiding around flask duration.
